The community often focuses on current issues and overlooks the historical trauma of the past. "Just Sam: A Black Man's Journey to Healing" offers a deep exploration of the impact of trauma on black men and the African American community. Samuel Simmons, Jr., also known as Sam, wrote this book to challenge readers, regardless of their race, to step outside their comfort zones and confront the long-lasting effects that chattel slavery and systemic racism have had and continue to have on the African American community.

Black men are not to blame for trauma resulting from chattel slavery and systemic racism, but they must work together with black women to acknowledge the full extent of this trauma and take responsibility for healing. This journey requires courage and strength to move beyond mere resilience, guiding us toward community healing and thriving.
